It usually takes a few tries to quit a bad habit.
Granted, my guess is the number of former players that ever come back to playing after being gone a solid year is not a great %, and even smaller would be the % that play again consistently, but there's still a chance at some point nostalgia will overwhelm memory and he'll come back, however briefly.

Or maybe, just maybe, he did the smart thing and dropped off from all CF forums entirely and just plays CF when he feels like it.

Once you get passed caring what these forums and the people who participate in them have to say in any form, since it is mostly garbage anyway, CF probably becomes more enjoyable on some level.
