Go neutral neutral.
You'll make friends and find people to be more helpful. It will help you get into how to play CF without as much of the frustration that comes in being a caballed char or someone who has natural enemies.
You'll also not get as liberally mowed down by the other players.

Avoid a mage. Assassin, warrior are two of the easier beginner classes. Or if you want people to willingly seek you out to group and rank, go as a bard. You'll be a song monkey, but you'll get dragged all around Thera (so long as you're semi competent at least) Anthem and elven adagio alone make you a wonderful group mate for people looking to rank/explore.
