Not a comprehensive list and in no particular order, but the following will make your ranking faster:
- Choose a focus that can tank. People will want to group with you.
- Don't get distracted. Quit painting portraits in the Inn and go rank!
- Take charge. If you see a potential party, send tells to the people and form it.
- Be neutral/neutral if you want to maximize your pool of groupmates.
- Don't join a cabal. Cabals are for pussies. Not really (but, really), but you won't have to do cabal stuff...which is not ranking. Also, fewer enemies = more opportunities to rank.
- When you cannot find a group, get preps/gold/armor/obs/exp. If a group or single are available, stop what you're doing and go rank!
- Know what armor you need/want and when you can reasonably get it. Also, where to rank at which levels. None of this "I dunno, where do you want to go?" Have a plan.
- Know the areas and lead the party. Tell people what to do. This isn't a picnic, we're ranking! But, don't be an asshole about it.
- Do you want to do some PKing in the mid ranks? No. That's not ranking.
- Pay higher rank people to get you things that will help you rank. I can usually get a non-difficult dragon killed for 15-20 gold as an example.
- Learn how to make 15-20 gold.
- Shift before you haste. Slow before you revert. *Assumes you practiced control speed which sometimes I purposely do not until very high rank.
The last shifter I rolled hero'd between 30-40 hours. But, got forms I didn't want, even after rolling the bones, so I don't play him anymore. :( That's about as fast as I can get and some of it was luck. I'd not be too disappointed with 60 hr. to hero.
