There have been a couple characters that I did not fare well in a 1 on 1 with them at full health. I might eagleeye them whenever I saw them and only attack if they were damaged or occupied. Also, you can tell if a rager is blood lusting. Or, maybe you want to know if they are worth it or a newb before you rain down hell on them.
Mostly, if you're going to flyto and surprise attack, sometimes a quick scout won't ruin the surprise, but gives you a split second to abort or adjust your attack if they are fighting a mob or are with others (as mentioned, you cannot see ghosts or newly reformed ghosts from the air with a 'where'. But, you can see them if you scout a target and they are with him.
An interesting side note, when you cannot fly to someone in your PK for whatever reason, you can still dive on them (falcon/boulderhawk/one other). That's come in handy getting to Thar-Acacia a couple times.
Playing utility/air (utility major for slyness: sneak) I've gotten lucky and had the following skills: hide (raccoon), sneak(slyness), steal(raccoon), scavenge(raccoon), water form (toad), camo on water (toad), detect hidden at night (burrowing owl), burrow (burrowing owl: I could go afk for 15+ minutes with no fear), major regeneration (cobra), near immunity to fire (cobra), strike to confuse/paralyze/forget (always gets one of the three) (cobra), danger sense (cobra). I played that character many hours. :)
