Me personally I would not bother. Gates gives a max of 25% resist.

Given the HP pool of elf/delf (High dex low Str) I think soul is a far better choice, its always active and you dont have to gear/carry items for it to be effective. Felar might be a different choice but having done gates in the past even with a high con race I doubt I would take it again as I never felt I had anything decent for magic/elemental damage which is where I wanted to protection so soul would have won here as well.
