Does more affinity points lead to more damage, or just make the skill percentages go up faster?

Any idea why people seem to view Water and Earth as the least essential?

Interesting. I was trying to game out a situation where an invoker is sitting in a pit with quicksand above it, and a hidden person was after them. Thief or assassin. If the person isn't flying then they yell when they hit the quicksand. If they are flying, and they go down into the pit, most likely they'd get hit by the web. But if there's no lag, they could get off an assassinate or blackjack/etc. attempt.
