I think my best all round tank was my elf temperance 2h specced Paladin, with defiance. Better thank my lawful good Conjie, better than my Arial sword spec, better than my elf champion (albeit hope virtued).

But equally I'm not sure he'd have outtanked the drow caverner who ranked in Aran gird, solo, from the point of getting wilderness familiarity. Because the Paladin would have got hit with rebounding strike a lot.

Drow muter with staff, all the speeding spells, malleability, and abs was great Vs pcs but not so great Vs mobs than I couldn't use spells against (eg golems guarding trothon).
