With empire if someone does demand your gear or anything else you don’t like then play politics. Give it over then start rumors to get the in trouble, bribe someone higher to undermine them, casually tell their enemies when they are vulnerable.

For scarab you can’t be a boot licker but you need to be smart enough to deal with those stronger than you.
