Plus he can always get the edge that prevents unless being stolen, although I believe that's at a higher level.

But mainly, he can pack it away on one of a number of worn containers stuffed with light objects, and simply use a different weapon when the thief is on. I write regularly switched out my weapon and my main wasn't even one I could pack away.
