For what its worth, I stopped playing APs over a decade ago for this very reason. Reason being, they are much too risk averse to be enjoyable characters and are not fun adversaries due to the requirement to be risk averse.
What ends up happening all too often with APs is that you have to be hyper aggressive (shapa style), moment you lose your weapon you delete because its easier to build from scratch as opposed to rebuilding a weapon after lvl 40. Now rewarded characters might be an exception to this, but I'm talking about just base level skill set/etc.
Basic improvement
1) Lower threshold for controls down to 15 pks, make your deaths count toward the control count. Demon doesnt give a fuck who's soul it eats.
2) At each control, add base level bonus to unholy bless that accounts for weapon loss.
Ex at first control, your unholy weapon is now + 5 hit + 5 dam + 30 hps + 30 mana, 2nd control +10 +10, 60 60... so by the time you play it out and get to last control, your unholy blessing gives you 30/30 hit/dam 600/600 hp mana.
3) Opportunity cost is that you never get past 30/30 600 600.. you can juice your axe by not dying and taking little risk and never get past 30/30 or some arbitrary power ceiling.
Or you could go about nerfing skills/spells, cause its your turn now.
