It's up to you and your RP. If you want to call it right away on a thief who fails blackjack, well I guess you can. Some people look down on it, some people don't. There aren't any real restrictions for use. Just don't go picking fights with random people for no reason and call thirst. With my villager, I would use it when A: I know the person was going to be a hard fight(Kharg/Hunsobo/Kanaev) B: There were multiple foes and only me. It takes time and mistakes to figure how and when to use it best. Dive in head first and have a blast with it, it's fun.
