There are definetly times where I ask myself did he play cf? Now sure some parts of cf are based off of his books but not all. Also a lot of cf seems to be similar to a lot of ideas found in forgotten realms. I mean heack a lot of the sword spec was obviously based on the orginal drizzt books.

but other things like gromphs staff in the last book of the war of the spier queen series, while not named sounded similar to the staff of wonders with its anti-magic shell and what not.
