I wish I had it logged. I have played two sneaky classes recently one dark-elf assassin (which is different due to perma-sneak) and this thief.
With the dark elf I noticed absolutely nothing like this unless the room was no longer civilized.
I have played multiple sneaky classes over the years many many times dark-elf/felar/half-elf/half-drow/human assassins elf/human/half-elf thieves. It was a long time ago that I played them 2-3yrs and they could hardly be considered successful. Having said that I never once noticed this happening or remember this happening and it might just be me not remembering. I brought it here to see if anyone has had similar experiences.
I might roll the same combo with the same gear and see if I can log it. It literally went like this. I'm guild sitting and a potential enemy warrior runs through Galadon out the East gate. I hide/sneak. Run out onto the eastern. No enlarge. Just rested/eaten/drank/quaffed flying (a prerequisite imo if I am going to chase someone without being seen. Mvs for chasing + and do not want hunger/thirst bringing me out of hiding.) Trundling along the Eastern in the enemy's footsteps. I scan east and see the enemy at an entrance to a turning off the eastern. Hid/sneak again. Walk east to blackjack and - 'You step out of the shadows.' I didn't even notice at first until the warrior (not duergar) acknowledges me. I actually had to read back through the client to see what brought me out. No invoker spells. No druid wilderness. No quicksand - not that it would have mattered at level 18. I was probably flying anyway to avoid being tripped should the blackjack go awry. Similar things happened in various other cities.
I'm pretty pedantic about how I play sneaky classes as well. I remember at the time I would have had 2-3 glowing pieces of armor and a glowing weapon. No humming eq at all. Also, some of the armor I wore probably falls into the 'heavy armor/bone armor/dragonbone armor' categories. The majority was light armor however. I was at approx. half my weight carry capacity +/- 10 lbs for dodge, more likely under than over.
