Here's my take on having played a few hth specs, others are free to agree &/or disagree
Pros:
- You cannot be disarmed
- No amount of strength loss will remove your weapon(s)
- You are extremely difficult to parry and in fact straight up melee (nobody enters a command), will probably beat most other specs
- Assassins cannot throw you
- Vital is a 1 round lag (on you) attack that you can initiate combat with
- Pummel does some solid damage, can lag, can cause vuln blunt for a tick, your "go-to" damage move as far as I'm concerned
- Crushing blow lags and has no counter
- Stun is one of the most reliable sleep moves in a warriors arsenal
- You aren't using metal weapon so protection from metal and shield of electricity don't come into play
- If you wield weapons when walking down eastern, you can very effectively surprise people who concentrate on removing them
Cons:
- Ironhands is a bitch to improve
- You will not defend as well as if you used a weapon in most circumstances
- As a felar you cannot exploit any vulnerabilities
- Porcupine quills cannot be avoided
- No way to cause bleeding
- You don't have any spec skills worth noting while using a shield
- There are times when not using your specced weapon makes more sense (always true, but moreso in the case of a hth spec)
- Pummel can be wimpied out of
- Unlike cranial and choke, you cannot initiate with stun
- Two fewer wear slots to boost stats
