This was probably the fourth or fifth bard I played overall and I think the second that was in Village. This bard was also nothing like Bseter or pretty much any of the crop thats been around since, and villagers were not that smart or that great to begin with in '05. At the start of '05 I believe the village was pretty much empty at the hero levels but for Graatch, me, crackednn and one or two other folks, notice the thread is rather short. I know how to gear a bard now and for more things than I did back then, but only because I just wrote 'a' book on lowbie regearing in the wiki that still suits mediocre players up to their 30's, that is regear in any case pre-killing someone.
To be fair this was pre-veil, pre-edges, and during the days cheap shot was an auto-kill for anyone not flying who wasn't hasted. It was also in the very very twilight days of when proper, uncompromising RP with depth mattered mattered as much or more than body counts. Koff koff, Mek.
Nevertheless, I have some idea of how both the villager and non-villager bard handles, as I've played a Scion bard twice and an outtie bard once.
and frankly pal you're giving the playerbase too much credit if you're going to assume above-average players in the arena constantly all the time, epic battles ftw only in the arena otherwise GTFO. Seriously. Tell me why you'd waste/regather half of the preps you listed on a fight that gives you no advantage/loot whatsoever? If you answer that you'd use all that on an ARENA fight with the rules given, you're cracked. The arena doesn't return the state of preps and such.
By the way, if you fuck with the veil before challenging a village bard and X villager to a fight, I promise you any villager worth their salt even the average PKers will fix the veil before they even think about fighting you, so the veil will pretty much be at an even state before either pair of fighters does shit.
The only things that have changed since I have played are the frequency/effect of db, bloodthirst and resist. The damage reduction of resist + bard resist versus resist + misc. damage reduction will not change the outcome of an arena fight as much as it would in a raid and likely most of those preps would never see the light of day in the arena unless you knew you were getting a tattoo for it or it was RP motivated. The latter doesn't happen anymore, just ask pretty much anyone who has had their eyes open lately. Guy, crackednn, battlecharmed, Mekantos, and DC have all been playing lately and Dex stopped playing long ago for those reasons.
