A Path of Ash 
  A wide, uneven path of sludge covered stone winds along the broad base of the
mountain along its northern edge, small sharp turns to go around outcroppings
preventing the path from traveling in a straight line. Stone cast off from the
mountainside both large and small litters the path, the edges softened by the
layer of gray sludge and ash that covers them. Across from the mountain a plain
of swirling ash extends into the darkness, marking where life once grew, a dim
outline of a broken dome faintly visible a short distance into the plain to the
east.

A Cluttered Ruin 
  Rotted tables and destroyed bookshelves are scattered across the floor of the
collapsing dome. Throughout the mess shards of dull glass and twisted metal lie
in pieces, all destroyed beyond recognition of what they once were. Sections of
the walls have fallen free from the large structure, adding to the surrounding
clutter, as well as leaving the large domed ceiling supported by the remains of
heavily gouged stone. Through a large archway in what remains of the northern
wall you can just make out the edge of a narrow path before it is swallowed into
the black, chill air.

  A wide, uneven path of sludge covered stone winds along the broad base of the
mountain along its northern edge, small sharp turns to go around outcroppings
preventing the path from traveling in a straight line. Stone cast off from the
mountainside both large and small litters the path, the edges softened by the
layer of gray sludge and ash that covers them. Across from the mountain a plain
of swirling ash extends into the darkness, marking where life once grew, a dim
outline of a broken dome faintly visible a short distance into the plain to the
east.

An elven sentry slowly steps aside, raising his weapon.
A Junction of Paths 
  Before a fallen arch in the towering wall three small overgrown paths meet
from the east, west and north. To the south, beyond the clutter of stone from
the fallen arch, a wall of thick mists hide whatever lies beyond the gates.
To both the east and west two paths pass along the base of the crumbling wall
to the sharp turns where they travel beyond your sight. The last path travels
north between two collapsing stone structures, towards the wall of crackling
blackness that forms a massive sphere reaching high into the dark sky.
