At the Top of the Stairs
This narrow landing at the top of a narrow flight of stairs overlooks
the bar below through a screen of patterened wrought iron. A banged-up
wooden bench leans against the wall beneath the screen, carved with
initials and sticky with old beer and wine. Dim light from the room to
the west flickers through the doorway.

A sailor wanders through the crowds.
Beer in hand, a rugged-looking man bars your passage.

Common Room of the Rutting Camel
You have entered a dimly-lit bar scented with pipe smoke and heated
pots of exotic herbs. Long tables sitting close to the carpeted floor
encircle the platform stage at the south end of the hall. A trio of stoned
musicians entrance the patrons of the bar with a meandering and droning song
adapted from nomadic tradition. Sailors and working men gather together on
worn, embroidered pillows, talking and gazing in a drunken stupor at the
scantily-clad women that perform erotic dances upon the platform. Through
a curtain of glass beads a narrow stairway leads up to the second floor.

A dark-eyed woman tends to the bar here.
With an unctuous smile a beautiful young woman looks you over.
Slumped into a chair, a sailor sits here chatting with his companions.
A steely-eyed sailor sulks in the corner, empty cup of wine in hand.
Talking just a little too loud, a young braggart sits here.
Leaning heavily on the bar, a lightly-armored woman relaxes here.
A man sits slouched over the bar, drunk and mumbling.

Alley
The fishermen's hovels grow more and more cramped and stacked upon
one another further east, to the point where you'd no longer consider
it safe to continue through the squalor. Silent figures linger in the
shadows on front steps, leaning against the overhanging trees, or peering
through the darkened windows -- watching you stumble through their dim
quarters. To the north, between the shanties, dim light spills out
of a tavern door, the masonry cracked and stained with mold. The smell
of piss and stale beer contends with the garbage in the alley.

Huddled against the wall, a derelict crouches here mumbling.
