Only travel with numpad. In a situation where you think you will have to fight, stick with typing

e [enter]

e [enter]
e [enter]

manually until you are safe.

The numpad is very useful for moving from place to place, though. You could even set the numpad asterik o be "flee" so you can get that command in before switching back over to the main keyboard
