I tried to use mudlet on a mac laptop and hated it. It seemed really buggy and especially easy to lock-up / crash, but I may not have given myself enough time on the learning curve.

Depending on how complex you want to go, my alternate client to cmud is pueblo. It seems very solid and simple (though certainly not being maintained, either). That said, I still enjoy the bells and whistles of cmud.
