C'mon Paul, I know you're not that dense.
The Missouri Compomise was an attempt to appease the Southern Slave-holding states, but they were NEVER EVER going to give up slavery without a fight. Just look at the arguments Confederate leaders have made, which you easily find with a few google searches. They felt if slavery were abolished their entire way of life (economic, social, etc) was going to come to end. Whether or not it was true, if someone believes that, they are going to do whatever they have to keep the status quo.
I don't think this means Trumps a racist (but thanks for basically calling me a Berkeley liberal, thanks Paul for that), I think it means he's fucking stupid and hasn't read a history book since the 70s (if he did then). Like, seriously dude. I learned about the Civil War in elementary school...had to write a 20 page paper on it and it took me nearly all of 5th grade. Does it make any sense whatsoever that I had a better grasp on the Civil War at 9 then the President of the United States currently does? You don't see a problem with that?
Also, Paul, if you are comparing the US to other countries via reasons for Civil War, should we be like the other countries who have gone to War over stupid things like who is going to be the leader of the country (like hundreds of countries over the year...like France, England, Italy, Chile, Russia, etc, etc, etc)? Since you're saying (ostensibly) we should have been like other countries that abolished slavery without violence...well, those countries had violence over other, petty shit that we didn't have violence over.
I mean, your argument against Trump's comment is one of the most obtuse and stupid arguments I've heard. "Well, why did we have to go to War?"...um, the South Seceded and tried to break away from the rest of the country? How about that? That fucking good enough for you?
Jesus. You know, of all the people who are just like Berkeley liberals, it's you Paul. You're just on the opposite viewpoint. Disregarding someone's viewpoint just like they do because they think the other is "wrong".
