Aiming at the lowest students hurts the education, this is why common core is such a disaster. But, in California there are additional issues on top of this. Requiring the education system to support illegal immigrants who do not put into said system is an epic fail. And to be clear, I'm not saying get rid of the education for illegal immigrants-- if they're here, we have to recognize this fact and allocate more resources to the schools-- it's sad but true, that many of these families treat the school as a day care, and don't care about the education; some of these kids need so much more attention because they are not getting it at home, education-wise. Which circles back on the point that, everyone else cannot be dragged down by this, and the schools go to shit because of it, without even recognizing it as an issue. But again I'm digressing.
Relocating to another area with better schools is another option that is on the table, and I'll likely take this route in the next couple of years before my youngest enters school.
