Ravenloft (for the most part) is just gothic heroic fantasy.
I refer (perhaps incorrectly) as Dark Fantasy to the settings where the setting is fantasy, but it's really real and brutal and "realistic" in reasons and concequences. The most obvious example would be "Song of Fire and Ice" by Martin, many of Abnett's pieces (not necessarily fantasy). There are a lot of Russian authors who like the genre (like [
en.wikipedia.org] ), but I don't think they were translated to English. I'm sure others can give you better examples.
