Why do you particularly need to hide anything?

When I lived with my girl, I had no particular reason to hide anything. If I needed privacy, I'd wait until she went out or just ask that I be allowed to focus on something for a while. A closed door is a bit of an odd gesture in my mind, did you at least tell her exactly why? If it's reasonable, no reason not to keep it closed while you need it.
