(Let me just state that by saying I agree with him on the no separation deal, I disagreed with the rest)
There are several countries that has been a majority muslims but a secular government, for example Irak under Saddam or perhaps a better example is Turkey. Few countries have implemented "all out" Sharia laws and most that has them also has secular courts.
(Fair enough, I agree.)
So there can be a division between religion and state in muslim countries.
(Okay, to say there is no separation is silly, but there is very little. It countries like Saudi, Bahrain and so on religion is used to control the people. In short - you control the religious leaders and keep them on your side, you control the people. Obviously Iraq during Saddam was different. Turkey has a fair spattering of various different religions, from what I understand in Turkey, the military controls the state pretty much - not too knowledgeable on it though. Just what some Turkish friend's say. Islamic governments do have a tendency to take over and muscle out other religious groups if given a chance though like in Malaysia, or at least look out for its own.)
Also you must realise that christianity has not some inherent division in itself but has been forced out of it by blood of many men.
(Yes, similarly Democracy and the 'free societies' we live in in the West have also been built on years of fighting for those rights and conflict. Which is why the West is setting up Governments in Afgahnistan and Iraq may just end up reverting into another Saddam Regime or Taliban. The majority of people in that region don't want to work for a stronger better, society, they want personal power and gain. The region is already full of people trying to destabilize it through assassinations and bombings, it is obvious people are trying to pick the region apart. I don't believe Islam - or any religion for that matter - is inherently evil. The people that interpret and control the religion are, on occasion.)
The support in the bible for the Kings of divine right was not that easily overlooked. But yes, islam has many more rules and is different from christianity in that it is not a sunday religion but has rules for most actions and days. It is much more similar to orthodox judaism there.
