Wasn't clear if it was just your case fans were spinning or was it all of them. Often a system will power itself off if it doesn't recognise the CPU fan is plugged in.

Does the motherboard make any beep noises? This can indicate issues. Otherwise you're right, it could be the PSU, when the current begins to draw it trips it.
