I know lots of guys in the military.

October 05, 2011 03:30PM
A very close friend of mine, one of the few that nerded out enough as me to play magic the gathering, died in battle. He was an honest guy. One of my friends married a fellow high school classmate of mine, one of the biggest assholes I know. He hates ethnic groups and got his squad in the habit of listening to let the bodies hit the floor by drowning pool before they went into hostile areas. I don't stereotype.

For Java, police brutality video.

alansmithee October 04, 2011 06:49AM

Just to answer everyone at once:

Java October 06, 2011 03:16AM

I think that's the issue for me.

Death_Claw October 07, 2011 03:57AM

Why do you continue to ignore the facts? Why do you continue to say 'mid arrest'? There was no arrest. He walked up and sprayed these women with pepper then walked away. Period. (n/t)

alansmithee October 06, 2011 06:40AM

deleted nt

Rade October 08, 2011 06:06AM

How many times do I have to say I agree about the pepper spray? God damn.

Java October 06, 2011 06:59AM

Worst part of the pepper spray video? The cops behind the protestors who got hit with it too. I wonder if they had a talk with the dude who emptied the whole can... NT

Sam October 06, 2011 04:54AM

To be clear

Rade October 06, 2011 04:40AM

Except.

Java October 06, 2011 05:01AM

The videos posted in this thread are like half-logs on the log board. More context is needed to make a decision. (n/t)

Matrik October 05, 2011 07:52AM

NO, I WANT TO REACT VIOLENTLY AND RADICALLY, RIGHT NOW! nt

Batman October 05, 2011 07:59AM

Java is a military man. His opinions are HIGHLY biased. Listen to him if you want a good laugh. (n/t)

Frosty October 05, 2011 07:19AM

Ah yes, I forgot. Being in the military makes your bias level sky-rocket. No sensible people allowed in at all. (n/t)

Matrik October 05, 2011 08:15AM

This was meant for Java, not Matrik (n/t)

Frosty October 05, 2011 02:51PM

Still think it is good to point out that we all have bias. It's part of the human condition. (n/t)

Matrik October 05, 2011 03:16PM

I've been reading the forums for a while. You are biased.

Frosty October 05, 2011 01:59PM

Heh, ah. I was going to say...I'm typically on the opposite side of an argument from Java. (n/t)

Matrik October 05, 2011 03:09PM

We've had this discussion before. The military openly uses brainwashing tactics during boot camp

Rade October 05, 2011 12:41PM

We have? I don't recall this conversation.

Matrik October 05, 2011 12:50PM

It was possibly a few years ago

Rade October 05, 2011 04:42PM

I don't dispute that it is brainwashing. I do dispute it's level of affect.

Matrik October 05, 2011 05:52PM

Here's the important part of it

Rade October 06, 2011 03:47AM

This is simply incorrect. (n/t)

Matrik October 06, 2011 06:08AM

You've never served, have you?

Java October 06, 2011 04:02AM

I've never been a member of a cult either

Rade October 06, 2011 05:50AM

Please elaborate on why you believe it is brainwashing. Where did you get your information from, why do you think the way you do about this? (n/t)

paulstrack October 06, 2011 07:09AM

Read up thread

Rade October 06, 2011 12:41PM

Yet none of these correlates to "bias towards judging an incident as police brutality over not police brutality" (n/t)

Matrik October 06, 2011 12:50PM

Surely you can't be serious. I can only assume you aren't. (n/t)

Matrik October 06, 2011 06:13AM

The fact that you're comparing the military to a cult..

Java October 06, 2011 05:52AM

Neither the military or police are cults

Rade October 06, 2011 12:50PM

There is a difference between cult like "brain washing" and military "conditioning"

Matrik October 06, 2011 12:58PM

LOL WTF?

Rade October 06, 2011 01:05PM

No you fucking buffoon. The training is to help them KEEP their self intact through such actions.

Matrik October 06, 2011 01:18PM

To suggest that a person submitted to brainwashing techniques is not being brainwashed is incredible

Rade October 06, 2011 02:23PM

I'm not disputing the "brainwashing" as you call it. I would call it conditioning. I'm disputing its affects.

Matrik October 06, 2011 04:06PM

Since you don't see it I'll point out the items you specifically denied.

Rade October 08, 2011 06:05AM

Incorrect again.

Matrik October 08, 2011 01:16PM

Re: I'm not disputing the "brainwashing" as you call it. I would call it conditioning. I'm disputing its affects.

Rade October 08, 2011 05:57AM

Seriously dude?

Matrik October 08, 2011 01:13PM

Oh, and I meant "we" as in the forum have had this discussion, not you and I specifically nt

Rade October 05, 2011 05:04PM

Matrik October 05, 2011 05:45PM

Yeah that sensible serviceman I was talking to in a hotel bar the other night..

istirith October 05, 2011 08:22AM

Re: Yeah that sensible serviceman I was talking to in a hotel bar the other night..

qurdind October 05, 2011 09:16AM

That is exactly what Istirith and I are saying. Frosty was the one stereotyping here. (n/t)

Matrik October 05, 2011 09:52AM

I'm not saying all in the military. I'm talking about Java specifically.

Frosty October 05, 2011 02:20PM

His attitude is power-trippy.

istirith October 06, 2011 12:36AM

Fair enough. I just don't like myself and my military brothers being cast in with Java simply for being military.

Matrik October 05, 2011 03:13PM

I know lots of guys in the military.

Frosty October 05, 2011 03:30PM

Someone's sarcasm meter is on the edge of critical failure. (n/t)

vortexmagus October 05, 2011 09:32AM

Sorry. Rough day at work yesterday...

qurdind October 05, 2011 10:09AM

Re: Sorry. Rough day at work yesterday...

istirith October 06, 2011 12:34AM

What would the cops do if all those protesters just started rioting/throwing down? It's going to happen one of these days.

Sam October 04, 2011 11:39PM

Individual incidents will always happen.

Java October 06, 2011 03:25AM

Re: What would the cops do if all those protesters just started rioting/throwing down? It's going to happen one of these days.

qurdind October 05, 2011 06:44AM

I understand, but what I am saying is 15000 > 500, even with guns.

Sam October 05, 2011 09:06AM

You seem to be missing my whole argument with this video.

Java October 04, 2011 06:18PM

"Pepper spray aside." No. Don't put it aside. That's one of the most egregious and obvious.

alansmithee October 05, 2011 09:17AM

I have to agree with Java here.

Welverin October 05, 2011 03:55AM

Well, what would you say to this?

Sam October 04, 2011 07:00PM

I would say unruly mobs have a worse track record than cops.

Java October 04, 2011 08:47PM

RE: those 700 dudes on the bridge

Splntrd October 04, 2011 10:09PM

Link?

Java October 04, 2011 10:36PM

You're right.

Splntrd October 05, 2011 06:31AM

The New York Times doesn't speak for the police

Java October 05, 2011 06:38AM

Re: The New York Times doesn't speak for the police

Splntrd October 05, 2011 07:32AM

You're the one distorting things.

Java October 06, 2011 03:35AM

I guess my thought is the details you're trying to pin down don't really matter.

Splntrd October 06, 2011 06:28AM

I'm not trying to blame victims. I'm saying they were NOT victims.

Java October 06, 2011 07:03AM

Weren't they? I mean, they were trapped, beaten, and maced, dude. nt

Splntrd October 06, 2011 12:14PM

No they weren't.

Java October 06, 2011 10:00PM

Haha. Java, you fucking crack me up. nt

qurdind October 05, 2011 06:43AM

I'm assuming you're still overseas (why the link didn't work). The video I posted is off a cop slowly walking towards a group of bikers (like, Lance Armstrong bikes...not motorcycles) and full-on shoulder-blocking one of the dudes completely randomly.

Sam October 04, 2011 08:54PM

Sounds like the dude had it coming. nt

Java October 04, 2011 09:18PM

Yeah, no. I'm sorry, but America isn't a police state....yet. Biker did nothing to deserve it (hence, the cop got fired). NT

Sam October 04, 2011 09:24PM

He shouldn't have been standing where the cop's shoulder wanted to be.

Java October 04, 2011 09:35PM

The cop wasn't fired. Internal affairs cleared him. He did, however, resign.

Death_Claw October 05, 2011 05:52AM

Mostly agree. (n/t)

alansmithee October 05, 2011 09:23AM

My bad :( I just knew that dude wasn't a cop. Figured he got shitcanned. NT

Sam October 05, 2011 09:07AM

Yeah. I lived near downtown Pittsburgh when the g20 or whatever was going on. Those dudes were fucking idiots. They trashed a Boston Market.

Sam October 04, 2011 09:41PM

It sure seems like the older cops are typically the ones jacked up on power... Maybe term limits for cops and pay them more? n/t

Obaznuk October 04, 2011 08:51AM

Hmmm. If I were to write this policy...

Splntrd October 04, 2011 09:58AM

Actually, the problem is probably 1/3 of all cops become cops so they can...be cops and have power over people.

Sam October 04, 2011 10:01AM

A different incentive scheme involving education might go a long way towards changing that. nt

Splntrd October 04, 2011 10:26AM

I do not doubt that. NT
