Except, it might just change every current conjies familiar, I can think of a couple that would say it's a stealth nerf to change the algorithm and get into a huge flamefest with the imms, probably even going so far as to say they are leaving and never coming back (only to come back quietly later on). If the imps really cared enough to randomize it, it wouldn't be all that hard to code. Of course the flip side to this argument is even if it takes 5 minutes to code, that's 5 minutes spent with closing a loophole that is now publicized as opposed to 5 minutes coding something cool like a new edge. As it is, I think enough people know this trick to manipulate the system, it just isn't written here in black & white. However, I'm not so sure it really helps true newbies. If they are that new, they aren't going to actually know which familiar suits them. Heck, nowadays, there's reasons to want each one in my book, including the much maligned faerie dragon. Case in point, infi deleted over getting switched to the raven, I think he's insane to not want the raven, as it's the easiest way to scout and kill your enemies, but so be it, it doesn't achieve what he wants, he's free to choose differently.
Honestly I've no idea why it was ever tied to the name in the first place, but at least for now, it is.
