Haven't played seriously (i.e. never leveled a character past 30, maybe 25 hours played total) for several years (about the time they first added a bunch of additional wand locations in).
Got an urge to play again, trying to only make one character and focus on it.
First off have there been any major changes not covered by the events board or announcements on the main page?
Are any
Some of the numbers may be off or there may be other balance concerns, but making CF less gear/prep dependent would get me playing regularly again (rather than just dipping my toes in then remembering why I stopped putting so much time and energy into it to begin with). I don't think it will happen though CF has been moving in the opposite direction for a long long time and it seems complet
Only game I have found that seems to capture that same feeling I used get from CF pk (no rp at all mind you)(mind you it is not mechanically the same I just get the same type of feeling playing it, thought some in the community might like it)
Haven't played a serious character in a few years (whenever the last round of wand changes went through was my last hero). Don't have a ton of time but find myself with the itch to get back into it again. Primarily a serial mage player but open to trying something new (just keep general lack of experience with melee characters in mind).
Any advice?

With a defense shifter and water shifter I found that the enlivens that upped something the form was already good at it seemed to have more of an effect that if you tried to up something it wasn't good at (for a dodgy form I would use the dodgy enliven, for a damage resistance form I would use the dr enliven). your mileage may vary.
Defensive shifters with the right forms who group a lot generally are OK without ABS but if you want to actually kill (such as with offense/air) it is very hard to stay alive against certain characters without it. You basically dramatically limit the situations where you can reasonably fight if you don't have it, limit your chances against a competent warrior type, and lower you chances of
The idea that people who are not as good at pk should have less power than everyone else (making them worse at pk) and the idea that the people who are best at it should get more advantages (making them better at it) is on its head counter productive to bringing in new people (or maintaining people who aren't). Just think about it for a second. If you wanted to base things off of hours pla
Everyone uses tell, if you don't want make any assumptions that interfer with RP never use Group, Tell, or Cabal channel, restrict yourself to say and yell.
Going around in groups and killing stuff to level up also doesn't make sense from a real life perspective.
Everyone has a right to play the game how they want to, but I would suspect the number two reason (number one being gra
I have never really been able to get into a non-mage character. (I have tried a bards, assassins, and rangers a few times but never really got into and was way behind the curve on gearing them). I spent several years playing without knowing wands, and it kind of works but you are fundamentally limited without protections when you get up to fighting skilled people at hero, especially in group on
After you get third set of forms (sometimes second) you can do it with utility, water, or defense, though sometimes it takes getting a bit lucky with forms and is still slow.

How much time do you put in an average sessions?
30 min to 2 hours
How short can you justify a short one?
5-10 mins. If I want to rank and can't solo and have no possible allies on (or have been rejected by all options) I just get off. If I want to kill and can't find anyone or have an empty pk range I get off.
How long do you go when you feel like its pre
Haven't played regularly since they added all the wand locations(limited playing time and spent the previous couple years learning most of the old locations with no OOC connections, felt like a shot to the balls. Got the feeling that unless I want to dedicate as much time to CF as WoW or some such would take I would be eternally relagated just to being meat for "elite" (i.e. most
Ok basically I am interested in making a ganky thief that can help a group seal kills.
Not really all that interested in stealing other than as a prep denial tactic.
I have a few questions about skills I tried a search but either it is not working or I don't know how to use it. (or the info isn't there.)
I haven't played much in the way of melee before, and would not rea
I hate it when you get killed by someone, outrank them, and then never get a chance at revenge because they are out of range. Even if they are superiour player you always have the option to just gank them.
Plus rank sitting people normally get to an optimal point for their race/class and then pk alot.
Some people get annoyed by that since pks can disrupt ranking, and any thing thant slows
I am not looking for super secret info here, just where it tends more towards offense or defence, and if it has any really notable abilities like stealth or lag.
So I can choose a secondary focus for a character i want to get the form with.
Well I never posted a goodbye thread because I knew I would get the itch again eventually. I have only heroed mages so far and have in the past pretty much been a serial mage player (shifter, good conjurers, evokers, transumuters). I haven't had any really in/famous characters.
I quit when they added all the new ABS locations (played one character couldn't find wands and deleted)
haven't been able to keep that CF spirit up since they made the change. I went though hell(not literally but it was a 2-3 year project for me real time wise since I don't play a bunch and I didn't trade info for locs until I got the the last couple) exploring to get a mostly complete wand list (figured I had about a 3/4 chance of being able to find my full set) and was getting rea
Haven't been able to stick with a character since they changed ABS (Added all the new locs). I like playing mages (just can never stick it out with other character types, bit of an academic irl so I guess it translates to what I enjoy pretending to be). Don't have a ton of free time and it took me ages to learn most of the old locs (still don't know them all). Seems like they ar
Ok my experience with greater enlivens is as follows. You get the most benefit out of GE that play to the strengths of your forms. (for example a damage raising GE will work best on a high damage form, a DR greater enliven will have the most impact on a high DR form (like the dillo or walrus). A dodge enhancing greater enliven gives you the most benefit on a dodgy form.
I noticed little to
