I am completely familiar with Arbiter laws and whatnot, but my character was a paladin that I was attempting to roleplay with a completely different view, based on how a paladin of Shokai might see the laws. I was playing this character in total ignorance of Arbiter law, having never delt with them before. I think I was level 20 or so at the time. Pretty good conversation I thought, although I do disagree with what he said about intent. I found the fire giant fighting Tar Valon citizens by himself, killed him, then this occured shortly after. Could have lied since there were no witnesses, but those damn paladins, you know...
Irhomqoi tells you 'Did you, or did you not attack Azrinth in Tar Valon.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'The giant was slain to protect the innocents in that city yes.
I see you are a lawman also, shall I enlist your aid next time? I would not wish
to leave anyone out.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'A person may not attack or incite violence upon another upon p
rotected grounds.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Though he hardly put up a fight, I imagine the city guard could
have handled him if they had cooperated.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'You are going to be wanted for violating this crime.'
You are now WANTED!!!
You tell Irhomqoi 'I'm not understanding you lawkeeper...'
You tell Irhomqoi 'The peace was kept by this no?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'You acted against another within protected grounds, this is no
t upholding the peace.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Another? You seem confused perhaps, this was no citizen, it wa
s a foul fire giant.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'The people of that city deserve to be protected from him, that
is why laws exist.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'All are citizens of our cities when then come in, unless they
act against the law.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'He is a citizen when he stepped into Tar Valon.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Exactly, acting against the law.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Which is why I slew him.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'How did he act against the law.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'He is of a dark heritage, granted powers by a dark god! His ve
ry existance is what these people need protection from.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'I had thought you also served these laws?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'That is not which the Law of the Arbiters panders to. Know th
is. All, who live within the boundaries of the Law are protected by it.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Is that not what your organization stands for?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'Regardless of heritage.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'You act under an alternate set, but are obligated to reside un
der those perscribed by the Hall.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Alternate set? Of laws?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'If you believe that it is law to lay someone low because of he
ritage, then infact, you are acting under and alternate set.'
.
You tell Irhomqoi '*ponder* I do not understand. Why do the laws exist, if not to
protect the citizens?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'What do you think the giant was doing in Tar Valon?'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Slaying the inhabitants.'
.
Irhomqoi tells you '*shake* They battled those within the white tower.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Even the guardsman!'
Irhomqoi tells you 'not protected citizens.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Come now, how could I have slain him in the city, when they wer
e in the nearby tower?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'People often await the hiring of new servants or novices for t
he tower by waiting in the City.'
..
You tell Irhomqoi 'Came to the aid of the local guard and citizens, and this is no
t what is to be done?'
.
Irhomqoi tells you 'You have not been empowered under Arbiter law to do such a thi
ng.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'You know, if they were assulting citizens and guardsmen, as yo
u claim, force is not your only option.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Arbiter law...? The law is the decree of the gods, enforced by
those of us in the mortal realm, how can an organization of mortals make their ow
n laws?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'Could you not have healed and sanctified those being attcked?'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Alas, my powers are sorely lacking in that field for the time b
eing.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Though only a coward would grant such limited aid, while leavin
g their weapon at their side to watch.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'These are rule you have opted to reside not under the Law of t
he Arbiters, thusly, you have been flagged for the action.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'You are protecting those of evil intent, no?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'Perhaps you are right, mayhaps it is coward, but that is not t
he crux of the argument.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'No, that cannot be, I fail to see how.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'Intent has nothing to do with the law. Only action.'
.
You tell Irhomqoi 'Intent? If intent has nothing to do with it, then what does?'
.
Irhomqoi tells you 'As I said, action.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'That is not what I was refering too however.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Is it so, that your organization protects those that follow dar
k and corrupt paths?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'The law of the Hall that I have been empowered to enforce is n
ot concerned with intent, for it is variable or unbeknownst, but action, that is w
hich we are the vanguard.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'As well as those of perhaps light, corrupt paths...'
You tell Irhomqoi 'This cannot be, such is against the will of the gods.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'How can you corrupt the protection of their will into such a th
ing?'
Irhomqoi tells you 'That, I do not speak about, I am not a zealot or shaman, my ti
es to such things are unbeknownst to me.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'What you say, you protect those that we should be protecting ot
hers from!'
Irhomqoi tells you '*shake* I protect all those who come to the cities.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'The cities? What makes a city a special place?'
You tell Irhomqoi 'The laws are not bound by such things, all are protected across
Thera.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Injustices do not simply stop outside of a cities gates.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'To assume they did is to violate the spirit of the laws.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'In the eyes of the law, those who do not break it are those wh
o are protected by it.'
Irhomqoi tells you '*shrug* Again, I cannot speak of those things, you are speakin
g of another law.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'You use your argument to define itself. Those evil in intent..
. or actions if you prefer... well, that IS breaking the law.'
Irhomqoi tells you '*shake* It is not a question of good and evil. Only lawful an
d unlawful.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'The laws are a mortal institution, and while imperfect, exist o
nly at the will of the gods.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'Hence laws exist only to further the cause of the good and inno
cent.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'If someone, even a good person, acts unlawfully according to t
he Law set by the Hall, then that person forfeits their citizenship.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'Therein lies *your* twist of the law.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'A good person acting unlawfully would be corrupted, and on the
path to evil.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'Again, Law is not a question of good and evil. You filter you
view with this, this is not akin to the view of the Hall.'
You tell Irhomqoi 'That is ALL the law is a question of, they are merely an extens
ion of the lights protection upon its citizens'
Irhomqoi tells you '*shake* Not in the eyes of the Hall of Arbiters.'
Irhomqoi tells you 'Therein, lies your misunderstanding.'
