If Ygnacio was around these days he would have a fleshed out role for starters.
If the player behind the character worries about losing con fast(or some other thing). He should put into his role the change in his mindset, perhaps some progressive small role additions that show his change in perspective.
And not forget RP'ing his changing attitude, but put it into the role since that is a factor when IMM's consider you.

I agree that being made anathema is harsh, but that is one of the trade-offs of joining the Empire.
