Ok, I believe you.

I've not seen any tattoo that can kill you while your not even in the presence of a foe. One that does this much damage is just sick.
I wasn't responding to you, actually, I was responding to the other guy that responded to you. What happened to you did look pretty sick, and seemed a little buggy. The thing is, it seems like one of those worst case scenarios restricted to your char's experience. From my experience, Phoenix Fire works on a few factors that I don't want to elaborate on because
1. Not many people have played a Maran.
2. I might likely be wrong in my observations.
But I'm thinking that just for starters
1. a cloud warrior that
2. turned evil and
3. has killed lots and lots of good aligns in his lifetime, and
4. can't heal himself and
5. has no protection except rager resist
would be a particularly nasty target of Phoenix Fire. I don't think it would have proved so fatal to many other combinations. But, keep in mind that it is the *only* cabal power that Maran get.
That all being said, it did seem weird that the fire kept hitting you after the duration wore off (or should have worn off). I never noticed that when I was affected by it, and that seems a little buggy, but .. I don't know. That's why I hesitated in commenting to your post, but the other guy's I couldn't resist.
