I have no idea how hard the imms are cracking down nowadays, but I have done my time searching the who list and standing guard in the description room, so I believe I can give a somewhat informed responce.
Is the name silly? Yes.
Is the name original? Yes. (I always took originality to mean that the name has not appeared in CF before)
Is the name slang? This is a grey area. Melvin is indeed a real life name, and a slang term for a wedgie. While I have done no extensive research into the origin of the term, I do believe that the fact that it is a real name discounts the fact that it is a wedgie.
Is the name a combo of two names? Obviously no.
Is the name acceptable? Given my responses to the previous three questions, it is.
Choosing a name such as Melvin does indeed open you up to attack. Chances are you will be PK'd more often. Chances are you will be berated more often. The imms probably snicker when they see your name. Leaders snicker. Players at large snicker. But would I deny someone who chose that name? No.
