If you are going to try and lag the gnome, the Fire A-P should bash and not trip.
That was my first reaction, as well. But, giant-bash is unusable against small size races like gnomes. But I don't think it would have mattered, they were clearly surprised and completely underestimating the gnome.
It was an entertaining fight to watch though. I love seeing a gnome warrior tearing into a group.
