>...that Bards should proofread more carefully, but it seems the problem lies in the fact that they think it is correct. In your Chayan example, Mealody was mispelled twice. Obviously that's how Chayan thought it was spelled, and it looked good... why look up a word to see if it's correct if you know it's correct? If I send a note to anyone I'm frantic about it being perfect. Luckily I'm a good speller and good at grammar (when I want to be) *grin* so that helps... but for those out there that aren't, they don't seem to care anyway and just send the note.
That's why I suggest using some (at least rudimentary) word processor that has a spell check. ;) It's easy to copy it and format it to turn it into a note when you're done. And, whenever I'm only vaguely sure of a word, I'll check a dictionary, ask a friend, and six other different things. It helps now that I have MS office 2k and MS Bookshelf (which is an awesome little thing to keep around).
> A bard note to all in CF adds a new variable to their character... something no one else has. Whatever they scribe is shown to the entire population. To be honest, whenever I see a note from Chayan I skip it. Whenever I see a note from any bard that has made a spelling, grammar or whatever error in the past, I skip it. I guess that's a little obnoxious of me, but to be honest it ruins the entire note when something stupid is done. I get the point of the note, sure, but it just shows me that they don't particularly care about it enough to proofread the entire thing and make sure it's perfect. So, since they don't give that respect to their work, I don't give them that respect. Oh yeah, that's 10% of the reason. 90% of the reason is that they never had anything good to say. :-)
Most of the Mud population I've ever heard from says the same thing. I know that if something about a note isn't pleasing to the eye, I generally do not read it. If you're a bard who wants to do a lot of notes, you really have to do them right, or your idea really becomes a failure going past your supposed listeners. I try to give a bit of the benefit of the doubt, but it can be difficult.
