I think we're talking a gnome mage who trains all hp.

Let's pretend 500hp, alright?

Give me a break... any hero mage can get PB rings in a second. And there's about 8 man-at-arms, some of which are nowhere near the gates. And even if it is at the gate, the gate guards would die in one fireball--they're like level 10.

Alright... here's me starting over... to prove a point, a 100% non-limited hp suit, for a neutral mage:

2x pitch-black ring = 40
2x sandy brown desert cloak = 40
black chainmail = 30
mithril helmet = 15
snow worm leggings = 15
firewalker boots = 30
black steel gauntlets = 15
snow worm armguards = 15
skin from the snow leopard = 20
2x jewelled golden bracelet = 40
Wand of Orcus... er... wait... scratch that.
snow worm shield = 20

Total = +280hp

That's not shabby at all, and a level 40 character should be able to get all of that with ease, except maybe a transmuter with a non-combat minor.

And improving upon almost all of that is easy, if you allow even "common" limited items.
