Learning about Quests

I have been on CF for a while now and still fairly new. I have learned one quest and that was from accident. I was wanting to know the quests are so specialized in requirements to complete how can one learn at least the starting point to try to learn the rest of it? Is following a god the only way? or is there a another way to learn the starting point? Thanks all HAppy New Year and CF is the realm for me
