Pierce, bash, slash, and magic, are your armor versus those respective attacks. In general, swords and axes are slash, daggers and spears are pierce, and staves and maces are bash (can depend on the weapon though). Also, the lower the better - Having a large negative slash and large positive everything else (????? not possible I don't think, but eh..) will give you better protection against a slashing weapon and not so great against anything else. Magic is just that - damage from spells. Save vs. are saves against certain kinds of spells, again, the lower these are the better chance you have of the spell failing to take effect.

Most people will tell you that above the teens, AC is useless.
