If you suck at ranking then human because of the least penalties.
human stats are nice also + 3 bonus
and you can use that divinie power sword

Paladins do not tank that well early on compare to a warrior.
you tank like an ap if you played an ap before.
half elves are not worth it..

when you are young expect to die
you have little hp, and iron weapons wielding warrriors will kill you with ease again
if you like to commune and if you can hero then Elves are nice because of all the mana..

Storms make good tanks.
A few weapons like two handed swords are good
if you like to pk or be a maran, i suggest storm or human
if you are just doing it for fun elf is fine
