Ambush is not a sissy skill. Pre-30 ranks you can take out anywhere from mages to anti-paladins with a healthy ===OBLIT=== in one shot...if not, you sometimes get a few extra hits at the start of the round before they can flee. Creep is invaluable, as you can camo (which doesn't lag you as much as you claim) and sneak up on foes who are fighting in the forest without them even knowing. A group of three leveling in forest of nowhere? Camo, creep to them, ambush the injured one, camo again. Chances are the groupmates won't even see what happened till you get the second ambush off. As for bearcharge, if you think it's just bash you are sorely mistaken. It deals a decent amount of damage (EVIS) and lags the opponent a healthy amount as well. Serpent strike is another you left out...it's nice to have a virtually guaranteed EVIS every other combat round. I don't think rangers are as bad as you say they are. I'm playing one now, and he's been killed by 1) a necro with zombies, faerie fire, summon and sleep (and 5 levels) and 2) a warrior who had ranks on him (and out of the forests no less). Are they more difficult to play than other classes? Maybe. They certainly take more patience, as much of your time is spent hiding, waiting, hunting, staying hidden, creeping around. But when you say that you've got "nothing to do in battle before the 30s", that just makes me think that you never played a ranger 'right'. You can't hold your opponent in combat until 30, but a lot of times you don't have to...the ambush will do enough to kill most lowbies.. sparky the Rambling Ranger
