And how 'corrupt' do you think cops are? (long):

You have a very cynical view of the "RL" police, then. My father was a cop for 25 years, and there are a lot of myths about 'corruption' and the police force.

As with any job, there are slackers and there are people with a good, strong work ethic.

Yes, cops usually treat one another differently, and are allowed to get away with minor infractions... comes with the territory of almost any real career -- the people in the same business/branch cut you some slack if they know you're "one of them". Does that make them corrupt? Not IMHO, and for the most part it's very similar in-game.

Now, when a cop *is* corrupt, you hear about it all over the news -- investigations, scandals, testimony, court-cases.. it just goes on and on and on. Thus, even the *allegation* of one corrupt cop, or heavin forbid several of them working together can tarnish the reputation of the rest for a long, long time.

Also, it's easy to think that a cop may be twisting the laws for his own ends. After all, "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely," right? Furthermore, who wants to think good thoughts about the no good rotten low-down bastard that just pulled you over and gave you a speeding ticket, or hauled you in for drunk driving? They're all corrupt, I tell you! And why aren't they out there catching the *real* criminals?

You don't hear about the hundreds and thousands of man-hours every day in which cops do their job -- perhaps well, perhaps poorly, but within the laws. It doesn't make the news, just the same as, "72,000 cars made it home safely on the freeway tonight" isn't interesting.

I'm not saying every cop is honest. I'm not saying that every department is squeaky-clean. I'm saying that, IMHO, the relationship of Decent Cops to Corrupt Cops in Real Life(tm) is a lot lower than people think it is, and that ratio on CF is about right -- even given the existence of vefifiable "Lawful Evil" people trying to twist the laws to their own benefit.

Just my $.02
