Svirf trannie/invoker: Mastering spells isn't so easy, detect invis is redundant, vuln_blunt. You could get a lot of hp with the 22 con, but gnomes probably do much better in the long run.
Elf thief: Big xp hit, low hp, redundant sneak, vuln_iron, less dex than other, better choices.
Felar warrior with axe, mace, or sword. Too dependent on strength and dual wield.
Arial trannie: Flight is redundant, the dex is wasted without dodge, vuln_lightning, less than stellar hp.
Drow necro: Aren't they hard enough to rank? The sneaking doesn't matter when a horde of blundering undead follow you around, and now your pk range isn't all lower level, so sleep works less often.
Half-elf warrior: I got vuln_iron and a small xp penalty for what?
Choices I see more often but would never try:
Dwarf warrior: Sure, you have a lot of hp. But you dodge like my grandmother and have less strength than a human. Vuln_water can haunt you. How Thror was as amazing as he was escapes me.
Cloud druid/healer: Sure, you're beefy. But you have not nearly enough mana, and won't be able to take advantage of the huge variety of spells you have because of the low trains/pracs.
And the hardest:
Duergar berserker warrior, especially in the mid-20 ranks. If only someone could make one of these work somehow.
