Let's look at the spells an invoker gets:
Fireball: It's just a big ball of fire coming at the rager.
Forked Lightning: It's just a bunch of electricity coming at the rager.
Pillar of the Heavens: It's just a WHOLE LOT of electricity coming at the rager.
Cone of cold: You're just turning the air really super cold, and THAT's doing the damage to the rager.
Iceshards: Shards of ice coming at the rager.
Avalanche: You're causing a bunch of boulders to slide down a mountain, not casting a spell at a rager.

By your logic, stoneshatter and invis are like the only two spells that should be affected by spellbane.

Actually, if anything, the reverse is true. I could see a complaint for frostshield not stopping iceneedles, because they are, after all, shards of ice. If frostshield stops an iron sword that hits with a freezing bite, why wouldn't it stop a bunch of icy needles?

I'm fairly certain that one of the reasons is game balance. Invokers need SOMETHING to hit each other with other than dispel magic.

The fact that frostshield doesn't stop iceneedles really has absolutely nothing to do with spellbane. As I see spellbane, you are stopping a spell that would affect you, any spell, before it is truly cast.
