> What do you mean anyone can play a paladin and not a lich? Do you mean the who quest thing? Well...Not anyone can just powerrank a paladin either. There is that crazy little 'empowerment' thing that one has to go through. And what is easier? Powerranking to 47 with some godawful powers that 'anyone' can play, or trying to slug along with <10 powers as a paladin just hoping to get empowered?

Let's say you put in about 300 hours into your Master necromancer.
You begin your lich quest, gather your items, and when you drink
the elixir... you die. That's it. That 300 hours is now gone. Tell
me how this compares to the relatively easy task of getting empowered?

This is why liches get the power they do. This is why the becoming
doesn't happen very often.

I believe paladins should have a fighting chance against a lich. I wish
paladins would match up better. I don't think they do, but I don't think
they should be given the almighty power to make it a joke. They don't
risk the time they put into a character just to loose them at 47.

The other aspect I see is...
there are some capable people playing liches who put time into knowing
and gathering their phylacteries. I can't say I've seen an extremely capable
paladin since Hilcroft.
