The immortal can look at this situation two ways:

1) The Empire-dude in question discarded his RP and went to OOC knowledge in deciding to complete the quest.

2) The Empire-dude in question had some RP reason for doing an (apparently) altruistic deed. A deed of the sort often attributed to mothers who give their children rides to soccer games in the family minivan, if you will.

While (1) is probably the case -- Mr. Empire just wanted to get him some happy boot action on -- (2) is being kind and giving him the benefit of the doubt. From the sounds of things, that's the route ye olde Empire immortal decided to go.
