Two things really, and then I'll bore you all with my theories of why Knights crashed as badly as they did. (Well maybe a few more than 2 things), though this doesn't really get me off the 'you killed Knights...you bastard'-esque line...I really wasn't around that much, and when I saw that we were running dangerously low on leadership potential...I threw my mortal's hat into the ring (joined Knights) and ended up leading for a time...unfortunatly, my lack of being able to be around as an immortal didn't change with my ability to make time for a mortal (and for the record, my mortal leader wasn't blooded). As for Knights becoming a bit more of a bloodthirsty cabal, it was kinda called for because well...they had hit a wall of duality in that they were the only 'good' cabal, and also an 'honorable' cabal. *shrug* On to my boring theories of why the Knights crashed and burned:
1) Newbie magnet....as much as people whine and groan about how much they miss Knights, and want them back, at the time getting a veteran cf'er to play a Knight was a joke, ie: how many of you true veterans have played (or even seriously considered for more than 5 minutes at a time) a Dawn? Not a lot of hands went up...did they? Now, add a hard role (honorable AND good) in with a bunch of mostly newbies, or people who just aren't good pk'ers (pretty ugly picture eh?) now swirl in the bloodthirsty cf 'elite' running in gang-banging groups of the recently formed Empire (though even in the shadow days it was pretty much the same)....the result? A lot of golden-wreckage, covering a mountain of honorable corpses.
2) The confusion of what the purpose of the Knights was. Was it honor above all? or was it Light before all? (In this I probably added to the confusion with my religion...*shrug* c'est la vie, non?) Once again mix in the newbie element trying to survive, and then give them a bit of a confusing message...and what do you have? Yup...un-inducted golden wreckage, piled on top of quasi-honorable corpses.
I'm sure there are a lot of other reasons I can pop off, but I think these cover the basics reasons of the huge chain on the castle gates.
