Ragers as a whole already have too many people, a lot of them are giving ragers a bad name. You know that happens when this happens? Immortals get involved and they usually will burn the village down and make them start all over. I think Dhaevor is trying to avoid this. If you do not like being a defender, I would hold off on joining.
