I realize that were ragers not-allowed to wear items that had a "magic" flag on them that they'd be wearing some pretty shitty stuff. Christ, last time I checked earthen gear had a magic flag. I don't have a problem with that so much, though if I were a high ranking imm I'd have one of the heroimm lackies go through and rethread all of that shit.
My problem arises from the Baroman v. Maniakes discussion on the log board, centering around a particular whip.
Baroman admits that it has magical runes written all up and down it, yet he still wields it. This is my problem.
If something is BLATANTLY magical, should a battlerager wield it? I mean, obviously a magical flag doesn't make something magical, but surely glowing runes do. One might say that the runes aren't casting spells or otherwise affecting the battlerager in any way, but I'd disagree. The argument could be made that those runes are what gives the item its properties, perhaps they add to your mana, or your hp, or your dam roll or whatever.
I'm not saying that ragers shouldn't be allowed to wear items with a magic flag, just that they shouldn't be allowed to wear things that are blatantly magical, and as far as I'm concerned the "Does it cast spells?" criteria isn't sufficient. At least not from a die-hard roleplay standpoint.
