Jack and Jill draw swords. Jill slays Jack. Jack ‘had’ a constitution of 10, now it’s at 9.66.
Jack is now at his temple, and is a ‘ghost’. He can pass through doors, over water, and is
protected from being attacked for X amount of time.
Jack and Jill can fight another day.
What if:
Jack and Jill draw swords. Jill beats Jack down until his is bloody as hell (0 hp) and
incapacitates him. Jack will remain unconscious for 20 rl seconds, during which Jill
can take anything she pleases from him. When she looks at Jack, she sees ‘the beaten
body of Jack contains… or something like this. When the twenty seconds are up, Jack
stands up with 1 hp, and has the ‘ghost’ protection we all know. He is most likely
naked … and he definitely is down to 9.66 constitution (from ten). In addition to the
ghost protection, he can not be followed (or he should type nofollow), and have unlimited
move points for the ‘ghost’ duration (I think ghosts have this already but haven’t looked).
A smart Jack high tails it away from Jill to safety. The ‘ghost’ protection can be called
something else since he didn’t die. During his life if Jack keeps getting his ass kicked
to unconsciousness, he will eventually be out of constitution and die, I mean REALLY die.
Now, there MUST be some flaws to this, because most muds don’t do this, and I’m sure
I can’t be the first one to think of it. Maybe players just like the ‘Jack is DEAD!’ rush at
the end of combat to add some punch to the game.
Granted Jill could be the nastiest of all evils, and wouldn’t let Jack live after he’s been
beaten bloody, but out of the two scenarios, seems Jack being knocked out is more realistic
than him being ‘killed’ 30 times before he is ‘killed’.
