Actually, there was a shaman (neutral evil, empowered by Zulg) who oathed and lost his communes.

As far as spellcasting goes...I have oathed neutral evil muters without losing a single spell. About five to six pages back on this forum (maybe more) a person asks about bloodoathing a neutral evil mage and I believe the Immortal that Anathed you went into a lengthy discussion as to why mages will lose their spells.
Who is right? Beats me though I doubt I'll ever bother oathing any mage/clerical class that isnt already lawful evil.
