Personally, I really think there's nothing wrong with the trading of basic information. But, in agreeance with Not Shokai above, cheating DOES happen there, and THAT's the problem, not the basic information trading. Information is given out all the time on the forum.. nothing wrong with it here, nothing wrong with it on IRC. But, alas, e-mails and private messages on IRC can't be monitored as it can here.

IMHO, there's absolutely nothing wrong with IRC. Agreed, it can be a great tool, a great place to become familiar with the game's mechanics. But it can also be a place for players to become disillusioned and bitter. Therefore... people like me pop up. Aggravating? Of course. A prick? Yes. Aware of the behind-the-scenes BS in IRC? Absolutely.

I know most of you hate my guts, but that doesn't bother me. I quit cheating, and haven't done so for a long time, and I'm proud of that. Believe me, life without IRC is a life with sunshine, with the awareness that the knowledge you gain about the game is earned in an honest fashion. Trust in that... It'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy.
